Meet the Governors

 Little Leigh Primary School Governors

2017 - 18

In June 2015 the Governing Board at Little Leigh Primary School was reconstituted in keeping with statutory guidance from the Department for Education. We took that decision as it allowed us to change the numbers and types of governors we have, and to appoint more people on the basis of the skills they could bring to enhance the functioning of the Governing Board.

The Governing Board now consists of:

  • The Headteacher
  • One elected Staff Governor
  • One appointed Local Authority Governor
  • Two elected Parent Governors
  • Seven Co-opted Governors
  • The Chair and Vice Chair are elected at the Autumn Term Full Governing Board meeting. They can be elected for more than one year.

Our Chairperson, elected in November 2015, is Mr. Chris Perry who can be contacted at:

At Little Leigh Primary School, we have converted to committee less governance, selecting to have six full governor meetings across the school year. Due to this, we have link governors who visit school termly to meet with subject leads in the following areas:

Chair of Governors - Chris Perry (Co-opted Governor)

I am immensely proud to be the Chair of Governors at Little Leigh Primary school. I have a governor since October 2012, when my oldest daughter started at Little Leigh Primary School. I have two daughters at Little Leigh and I could not wish for a better school for them. In addition to my role as chair, I am the link governor for vulnerable students, safeguarding, and RE. My vision for the governing board is that we are an effective means of support and challenge to the leadership of the school so that the school continues to improve and provide the best education for our children.

Vice Chair of Governors - Jacquie Jackson (Local Authority Governor)

I am a retired teacher with 35 years experience, 19 of them as Head of a Primary School in the Midlands. I now volunteer at the Oxfam Bookshop in Knutsford, spend time with my 10 year old grandson and as often as I can walk in The Lake District.

I have been a member of Little Leigh Governing Board for 5 years and am the Link Governor for Finance and Maths. I work within the Governing Board to ensure that every child gets the best out of their time at Little Leigh.

Co-opted Governor - Sue Swain

My name is Sue Swain and I have been a governor of Little Leigh School for twelve years.  I am married and have two children and four grandchildren.  My background is from the teaching profession; I have taught early years for the past 25 years, working in local schools as well as schools in Runcorn.   Some of you may know me from my role in Building Blocks Kindergarten which I opened 17 years ago; I am also involved in Little Leigh Pre-School and Little Leigh Out of School Club.

In my role as a governor of the school, I am the Chair of the Staffing Sub-Committee and the governor with responsibility for Early Years Foundation Stage.   As the Chair of the Staffing Sub-Committee, I am involved in teacher recruitment and reviewing the policies surrounding teacher’s appraisal.  My role as the Foundation Stage governor involves liaising with Miss Morris on all aspects of the Early Years Foundation Stage.  I really enjoy my role as a governor and am very proud of the achievements of our school.

Ms Sarah Brookes, Co-opted Governor

I have been a secondary school teacher for the past twelve years teaching in Rochdale, Manchester, Salford and currently Northwich.  It has been a pleasure to recently join the governors here at Little Leigh, helping to ensure that all pupils achieve their full potential.

When I’m not working, I love spending time with my friends and family particularly my two young children who (as you undoubtedly know) keep me very busy; point me towards anything that allows me to be creative and I’m a happy individual.

Parent Governor - Anna Poynton

I was appointed as parent governor in December 2017. I am link governor for Personal, Health and Social Education (PHSE) and Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development (SMSC). My professional background is as a solicitor and partner in a firm in Manchester, which employs over 700 people. This has given me extensive experience and knowledge of people management and operational management. In my spare time, I enjoy baking, reading and most importantly, spending time with my family.

As a mum to two daughters, one of whom is currently at Little Leigh Primary School, and the other attending the pre-school, I feel passionately that all children should have the opportunity to reach their maximum potential and take a passion for learning forward into their future beyond school. I am committed to ensuring the progress and development of all of our children and I am delighted to have joined the governing board to help the school continue to improve.

Parent Governor - Victoria Randles

Staff Governor - Katie Hawksworth

I am the Year Six teacher at Little Leigh Primary School as well as SENDco and Languages lead. This is my third year at Little Leigh and second year as Staff Governor; I am thoroughly enjoying being part of such a well organised and dynamic board!
